We short people find it hard to buy jeans that fit us length wise. I bought some jeans from Buckle and they hemmed them for free for me leaving the original hem on the jeans. I picked them up, took them home, looked closer at the hem and I thought to myself, "I could have done that." A couple years went by and I did nothing about all my long jeans, until today. Cathe, from Just Something I Made, put up a tutorial on her blog and I was so happy to see it! The thing is...I did mine just slightly different. Watch.
I did just what she said; put the jeans on, find where you want your jeans to lay and pin it. Roll the jeans up so that the original hem is slightly above that mark, and pin it.
Sew right next to the original hem, like so.
That's it! This seriously took me maybe 15 minutes to do and it was so worth it! Best part is that I didn't have to pay anyone to do it for me.

Here is where I do my thing. Instead of leaving that extra chunk of fabric rolled up and tacked down on the inside of the jean, I just cut it off. There's a lot less bulk which is good when you have skinny jeans. Plus, I think that is how the hemming lady does it at Buckle.
Unroll it and iron flat.

- Gingher Scissors - these are by far my favorite fabric scissors! I've tried a few others and they just don't compare to Gingher.
- Sewing Machine - we have used the Brother Project Runway for a few years now and it's been a great machine!

I'll show you how to look exactly like Eleven from Stranger Things for Halloween! So wipe off that grin, and let's get started. 
Seriously though... you have to stop smiling and act very serious if you are going to be Eleven. That's step number one - be serious.

Use Revlon Dark Purple Lipstick (because that's what I had on hand) or Fake Blood for the nose bleeds. All that "saving the day brain power" causes a slight bloody nose, and it definitely adds to the overall creepy affect.
Wear a light pink knee length dress with a high neckline & white collar. You could just wear a collard shirt under the dress if you don't want to buy a single collar.
Knee High Striped Socks & White Converse Shoes. Eleven's socks had green and yellow stripes. My socks came with an extra red stripe, so I just folded the yellow stripe over the red at times. But really, if the red shows, no big deal.
Black Watch
Blue Bomber Jacket. This jacket is pretty inexpensive, and I have found myself wearing it almost everyday so far this season. Seriously.... ;)
Eleven wears a very blonde, medium length wig. This is actually my own hair glistening in the sunlight, but you can purchase a wig if you need. Style it with a few loose curls.
Eleven loves Eggos, so be sure and grab some to complete your look!
And try not to be too creepy as you shop.

Barb, my fellow Ginger, you are not forgotten. Out of all the characters in Stranger Things, I have a special place in my heart for my redheaded sister. I couldn't help but find my inner Barb, and get my mom jeans on. 
For all you loyal Barb fans, here's what you need to successfully pull off her super memorable look.
First things first. The hair. I luckily already have red hair. Because Barb has super short hair I simply pinned it back, as seen above. If you don't have foxy locks, have no fear, a Barb inspired wig will work perfectly!
Don't forget the perfect shade of blue eyeshadow!
Huge eighties framed glasses are a MUST. I found these bad boys after searching high and low at local thrift stores. It was like finding a diamond in the rough.
Any type of high collared blouse is totally Barb. I once again found my blouse at a secondhand thrift store. It's true what they say, "One girl's trash really is another girl's treasure!"
Don't forget to bandage your right thumb, which we all know is Barb's tragic demise.

Finally. Mom Jeans! Get some high waisted denim and your look is complete. The more unflattering the better! We figured Bard would wear a pair of white converse sneakers like the other kids at school.
If this isn't justice for Barb, I don't know what is. Steph and I had so much fun putting these costumes together. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I can't wait for Halloween day when I can dust my glasses and mom jeans off, and take this look out on the town.

Yup, designer jeans these days are often distressed. But you don't have to pay designer prices to get the designer look. Just grab a pair of jeans and lets get started with the tutorial DIY Distressed Jeans.
You can distress your jeans however you like. Big rips, little tares, large or small amounts of fray. I like to distress the jeans in areas of natural wear and tear such as the knees, back pockets, front pockets, and the hem.
