DIY Natural Home Deodorizer

2:46 PM

It may smell a little like Thanksgiving or Christmas, but one thing is for sure, it can make any house feel like home. We just bought a home that was in foreclosure, so it had been sitting vacant for who knows how long. Every time I walked in the door, I was saddened by the smell because it just didn't smell like our home yet.

So one day I ate an orange as part of my lunch and placed the peels in a small pot with some water. I sprinkled in about 1 tsp of ground cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of ground cloves. Then I brought it to a boil and turned down the heat to let it simmer and steam. Add more water as needed. Within minutes my house felt like a home!

  1. I've been doing that for years now and it TOTALLY WORKS! Put a bay leaf in and it adds a neat level to the smell ;)

I have a pot that is used specifically for fragrance purposes. When we travel to our vacation home in the Upper Peninsula that's the first thing I do after we unpack is start the pot up.
