Okay people, these sugar cookies are AMAZING! They are soft, and tasty and PERFECT! This recipe was handed down to my sister Steph from her in- laws, to me, and now to you. Forever more this is the sugar cookie recipe I will use each and every holiday, and even in between.

Dry Ingredients:
6 cups of Flour
2 teaspoons of Baking Soda
1 teaspoon of Salt

(mix together is small bowl)

Wet Ingredients:
1 cup Shortening
2 cups Sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup Sour Cream

(Blend wet ingredients until smooth in large bowl)

Stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
Cover and place in the fridge for a couple of hours.

Roll out amazing cookie dough. Use your favorite/festive cookie cutters.

Bake @ 400 degrees for 7-8 min.
Let cool.

In the mean-time make the frosting.

Blend all together:
1/2 cup Shortening
1/2 cup Butter
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
4 cups powder sugar
2 Tablespoons milk

Dye the frosting whatever color your heart desires.. and taste the beaters if you like :)

Once the cookies are cooled... frost away!

YUM!!!
HAPPY LOVE DAY!

  4. im going to try this out tomorrow with my kiddos. I always make cookies with them but some times the batter still feels soft and stick verses not so sticky and better to handle I mean I couldn't even use a cookie cutter lol really.. do you think that not having a mixer hand something to do with it? well tomorrow we'll see how my cookies come out....

    1. They will probably be too flat and crispy if you use all butter in the cookies. I would try 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening (or even coconut oil) for the cookies. In the frosting, you should be able to do all butter.

  11. Will it affect the cookie if I refrigerate it for like a day or so? I want to make the dough ahead of time so I just have to do the cut outs, bake, and frost them when I need them.
